To honor the untold stories of the African American journey at one of our country’s most sacred sites. 

Located in Charleston, South Carolina, the IAAM opened in June 2023.The museum is located at Gadsden’s Wharf, which was a disembarkation point for the trans-Atlantic slave trade.The museum connects visitors with the history of the Gullah Geeche people and the trials and triumphs of African slaves.
